- Why should I have my pet professionally groomed?
While you may choose to undertake the responsibility of grooming your pet on your own, there are a number of good reasons to have the job done by a professional groomer instead:
They have the right tools.
Professional groomers use a wide range of tools and techniques from specialty skin products to clippers, adjustable grooming tables and pet bathtubs. They keep a selection of specialty shampoos on hand for different kinds of coats as well as for fleas, ticks and cats and dogs with allergies.
They have plenty of experience handling dogs and cats.
Professional groomers know what to do to keep your cat or dog safe during grooming. They are experienced in handling seniors, animals with behavioral issues, and more.
They take care of the unsavory tasks.
No matter how much with love our four-legged family members, cleaning and grooming them can include some very unpleasant tasks. From having to shampoo skunked dogs to removing parasites like ticks or fleas to even cleaning anal glands, a professional groomer can take care of all the yucky stuff without any fuss.
- How often should I have my pet groomed?
The frequency of grooming will depend on your pet's breed, their coat type and the length of their hair. In most cases, however, grooming should generally be done once per month.
- How long does a grooming session take?
The duration of a grooming session depends on the size of your pet, and the coat type and length. It also depends on what types of services are required to groom them. That said, most grooming sessions at our hospital take between one and two hours.
- How much does grooming cost?
The cost of grooming can depend on your pet's size or breed as well as the kind of coat they have. Whether your pet has significant behavioral issues may also affect the cost of a grooming session. For a better idea of cost, please contact us for an estimate.
- What are the health benefits of professional grooming?
Grooming is important to ensure that your pet stays healthy and clean. Grooming removes fur that has been shed and has stuck to your pet's coat, mats, ticks and fleas. Other health conditions may be prevented or halted in their progression.
Because mats can cause knots in your pet’s hair, this can lead to pain and discomfort - something every owner wants to prevent. A good brushing will also make your dog’s coat shine. Their nails will be trimmed to prevent curling and invasion of germs.
Detecting skin infection early is key to your pet's long term health. Your groomer will know what to look for. They will find bumps, inflammation, lesions or rashes which may be missed by even a diligent owner. They may also catch an underlying issue, and to sooner those are discovered, the sooner they can be treated.
- How do your groomers handle fearful or aggressive pets?
Our groomers have spent many hours handling stressed, anxious or aggravated animals. In cases where the animal is especially fearful or aggressive, sedation during the grooming session may be recommended. Most of the time, though, our groomer can manage the animal with the following steps:
•A quiet, peaceful environment
• Asking a dog to do something it knows (like 'sit' or 'shake')
• Offering treats
• Frequent breaks
• Opening a window or playing music
Our bathing services are available by appointment. They include shampooing, nail trimming anal gland extraction and ear cleaning. They also include a brush and blow dry.
We use Fresh n' Clean to keep your cat or dog smelling good for 2 weeks!
