What are cold lasers?

Cold laser therapy uses a light-emitting diode (also known as an LED) or a low-intensity laser (also known as a cold laser) to enhance and stimulate cell growth, improve healing and relieve pain in your pet.

The kind of light emitted by a laser determines the depth of tissue it affects. The higher the wavelength (green, blue or purple colored light), the deeper into your pet's body the laser penetrates. Likewise, the lower wavelengths of light (like red) will be absorbed by your pet's skin.

The Cold Laser Therapy Treatment Process

Cold laser therapy treatment involves the movement of a handheld laser wand back and forth over the part of your pet's body which has sustained an injury or is causing health issues.

Your pet will feel a pleasant and warm feeling in the area being treated and will likely find it enjoyable and relaxing. Cold laser therapy sessions at our veterinary hospital generally last about 20 minutes.

The number and frequency of these treatments will depend on your pet's specific healthcare needs.
